Basically, he wanted for me to
define the term military transition to where he could
relate and understand the process. "It's just changing jobs,
right?", he asked.

Before I began explaining the process, I made sure that
he realized that the transitioning process we were addressing
could apply to police officers, firemen, EMTs, and any other
job that has it's own lingo and culture.

In addition to the above occupations, a person who serves as
a teacher, a professor, a lawyer, an attorney, a public
official and every occupation you can think of goes through
some sort of transition once they no longer perform their
primary occupation.

We inevitably become like the people we work with and adopt
the thought process for that particular field. This thought
process then becomes a part of our lifestyle, identity,
vocabulary, and reasoning. The power of the thought process
and transformation of our identity in relation to our occupation
is underestimated. To put this theory to test, imagine taking a
30 day vacation and see how you feel by the 21st day. How
would your first day back to work feel? It takes 21 days
to acquire a habit.

Once we separate ourselves from that occupation, our identity
is tested. Once we leave or change occupations, we undergo a
self-discovery phase with our identities and experience an
identity transformation process. There are several events that
can kick off a self-discovery process within us (i.e. new job,
new location, new career field, marriage, divorce, etc).

A transition is just that, a transition. Ask any retiree
(civilian or military). Amazingly so, a person leaving the
military not only goes through a transition with an occupation,
they go through a lifestyle transition as well. Then if the
person relocates, there's a host of transitions occurring
simultaneously. All of these changes can cause sensory overload
if the person isn't prepared for the transition. (Hopefully this
analogy helps someone who hasn't served in the military understand
that military transitioning is a combination of transitions).

Over the past year, I'm really glad to see more supporting
websites and businesses online for military transitioning.
There was a need and the need for military transitioning
services will increase with our brothers and sisters returning
from war. Some say there isn't a war going on. If there is
blood being shed, that spells war to me and many others.

Food For Thought:

The lifesyle transition a military person experiences is the
transition of living within the civilian society. Our military
communities are very close knit. Imagine a base or post being a
little city with a population of approximately 2000 or less. A world
within a world, a microcosm in a macrocosm.

Transitions to Ponder:

1. Going from elementary school to junior high.
2. Going from junior high school to high school.
3. Going from high school to college.
4. Graduating from college and entering the work force.
5. Leaving home.
6. Going from single to married.
7. Going from childless to having children.
8. Watching children grow up.
9. Watching children leave home.
10. Going from a full nest to an empty nest.
11. Retirement, etc...
12. Leaving the earth plane as a living being.

Transitions are inevitable. That's living life.

Stay tuned for more on transitioning and it's affects. If
there is a topic you'd like incorporated within this subject,
please write to vetsinmotion@aol.com.

Until Next Time,

Johnetta Matthews
Veterans In Motion

This article may be circulated as long as it includes:

This article was written by Johnetta Matthews, Military
Transition Coach,Veterans In Motion, www.veteransinmotion.com
and www.veteransinmotion.blogspot.com .
<!--

Book & Resource Reviews
2. Tips
======================================

This week I'd like to focus on different philosophies
and review an e-book called "Lazy Way to Success".

This is a very interesting e-book package on how a man refused
to have a job and how he still became financially well off, legally.
He mastered the art of delegation.

Many of you may not want to become employed after the military
and may be seek ways to become a successful business
owner. If you're considering a business, you may want to
check out this man's philosophy.

He has a different mentality than our military mentality and that's
why his book is a featured item. It's the kind of book
that makes you go "Hmmmm".

I purchased this book and learned a different way of
looking at success and what a person may truly value.

Personal values stressed in this book are:

"Being in control of one's time and energy".

"Joyful giving".

"Appreciate your own life and circumstances".

"Know what you love to give and it will lead to your success".

I've invested in this book and audio presentation personally!!!
It's a keeper!!!

The audio portion of the e-book package uses sports analogies
to help a person see how athletes get in "The Zone". Then
the author shows you how to apply "The Zone" to your life.

I don't want to give it all away! Check out the e-book at the
above icon.

**We'll look at another resource next week to challenge our
military mindset.

=======================

2. Tips
======================================
Click on the above book at the top of the page for 43 free
pages to an awesome book. It's amazing how our own
thinking shapes our outer world. When I first saw this
book, I wondered what type of approach it was going
to take. After reading the first 43 pages, I wanted to
know more. The book has a very straight to the point
approach. The author explains how they were taught
"Switchwords" and how he was able to be in more control
of his thinking.

Basically there are certain words you can use to speak
directly to your subconscious mind. I don't want to
give it all away. Take a peek by clicking on the above
book at the top of the page. The first 43 pages are free!

I've invested in a book personally!!!
It's a keeper!!!

=======================

2. Trouble Letting The Military Go

=======================

Thanks for signing up for our newsletter.

Everyone has many different experiences letting the
military go. This post is in humor yet it gives you
food for thought on everyday living.

In my book, I mention a story that was told to
me by a fellow veteran. There was a retired E-9 who kept
his uniform by his door and pressed (serviceable). He believed
that the military was going to call him back and
he wanted to be ready when they called. Despite his
mission being over with the military, he had
a hard time letting the military go.

This may appear out of the norm, but it isn’t
when you really give if some thought. In the
military we have a huge sense of purpose.

For some reason when we leave the military,
some comrades believe our sense of purpose is
gone as well. This is on the contrary.

The military transition is a time to discover and
reflect on your goals and dreams. For the first time
in years you’re able to make your own decisions and destiny.

Use this time to seek resources for knowledge and
future options.

Thinking = Behavior = Environment

Check our main web site at www.veteransinmotion.com
for “The Five Mistakes People Make While Leaving
the Military and Five Crucial Tips to Avoid Them”. Let us know your thoughts.

Major topics on leaving the military are covered in
our Five Mistakes People Make While Leaving the
Military book on our web site at
www.veteransinmotion.com.

The first chapter to Five Mistakes addresses how
we perceive the world looks at us as a military person
and also how we have sacrificed as a military member.
The preface to the chapter explains how we develop
the “Sense of Entitlement” mindset.

I’ve been out of the military since December 2002.
You see, when I got out of the military, everything
was foreign to me and what I thought was important,
wasn’t. There were several things I hadn’t considered
as important at the time. The reason for this is, it’s
common to take many things for granted while serving our
country. Frustration sets in when we leave the military
and have to fend for ourselves.

The military provides a shield, which protects us from
a great deal of uncertainties. My vision is to provide
as much feedback to you so you can address what’s
going on inside of you while you make your move to
becoming a civilian.

Chapter 1 of the “Five Mistakes” recommends
starting a journal. Having a journal allows
for you to compare how your mindset changes
during your transition. It also allows for you
to see how you gradually approach life
differently.

The main theme of Chapter 1, of the “Five
Mistakes”, is the beginning of “Letting the Military Go”.
Next week we will focus on common traits
of people having a hard time letting the
military go. These are basic observations
based on interviews, working in the civilian
sector with veterans, and my personal
experiences.

I would personally like to thank the 45
subscribers to this newsletter. May the
newsletter provide you with tools to
address the adjustments with your
military transition.

Next week we will continue with the first chapter of
“Five Mistakes” located at www.veteransinmotion.com .

Periodically check our blog for updates and tips at:

http://www.veteransinmotion.blogspot.com

If you have inspirations of blogging, check the
below links for ideas:

www.blogger.com

http://www.typepad.com/

Or do a search on Google: Blog

Thinking = Behavior = Environment

======================================

Many non-military people have made comments on our book
regarding how their military family members made these
same common mistakes.

======================================

Check our main web site at www.veteransinmotion.com
for “The Five Mistakes People Make While Leaving
the Military and Five Crucial Tips to Avoid Them”. For the last several years, I've been a member of Bob Doyle's membership site and I've learned a great deal regarding the Law of Attraction. His material is straight to the point and when practiced, positive results will be achieved. Below is a newsletter from Bob Doyle. Enjoy.

This Week's Tuesday's Tips Newsletter 2008A:
(Courtesy of Bob Doyle: http://www.boundlessliving.com
==============================================

WAKE UP and Create Something - by Bob Doyle

==============================================

It's time for the "mainstream" to WAKE UP. The alarm clock
is ringing, they keep hitting snooze, and in the meantime,
the life they could be living is passing them by.

Day after day, millions of people go through their lives
wishing and hoping and dreaming that things could be better,
with absolutely no knowledge that it is they themselves that
perpetuate their own dissatisfaction.

It is not the "gifted few" who create their realities. It's
not just for those in the metaphysical community. It is all
of us. Every single one. However, there are a few who have
awakened to this knowledge, and make creating their reality
a daily event...manifesting whatever it is they want in
their life with seemingly no effort!

Meanwhile the rest of the world looks on in wonder and
disbelief. They assume that these "fortunate few" are among
the cosmically lucky.

To be honest, the whole thing generates some anger in me.
The problem is that we are "dumbed down" by society
throughout our whole lives under the pretense that we are
actually being intellectualized. The "scholarly" tell us
that metaphysical topics like reality creation are pure
fantasy. Science insists on measurable evidence of
everything before it will acknowledge such claims as fact.

However, it's really not that difficult to comprehend. Even
the most skeptical people should be able to grasp a few
simple concepts like:

- Everything in the Universe is composed of Energy,
including you and me. Even our thoughts are Energy.

- Through Energy, everything in the Universe is
connected.

- The Universe creates without effort, and in
abundance. Just look around you. Trees, rocks, air,
planets, etc. all were created without stress,
effort, or over-analyzation. The Force you choose to
believe initiated the creative process doesn't
matter. They are all there and were created
effortlessly.

- You ARE a part of the Universe and through the
power of thought, have the same creative power that
manifests everything you see. The only thing that
limits your potential is your own belief system!

Everything that occurs in your life is interpreted BY YOU.
You add the meaning, you add the emotional response, you add
EVERYTHING. It is your thoughts that literally take the
energy "data" and transpose it into your reality. What you
consider "real" is nothing more than an agreement that
you've made with yourself (and no doubt many others in some
cases).

This is how our reality has been shaped. This is how we have
learned what is possible, and what is impossible. We learned
it from OTHER PEOPLE. The problem is, these other people
(family and friends perhaps?) have their OWN limiting belief
systems which they ALSO consider "real".

So human limitations spread like a virus, and we don't even
realize what's happening.

As discouraging as this is, many of us ARE waking up. I
personally feel it my sacred duty to shake people out of
this "intellectual trance" that limits them and show them
what is truly possible.

So what IS the difference between those who cruise through
life in a seemingly perpetual state of bliss, with
everything they want coming to them with no effort, and the
rest of the population working at jobs they hate for the
sake of doing the "responsible" thing, hoping that SOME DAY
they can live the lives they hope for?

The difference is that these people know their purpose, know
WHY they absolutely HAVE to fulfill that purpose, and commit
themselves to never stopping until they realize their dream.
They may or may not have thrown the accepted definition of
"responsibility" out the window. The only thing that matters
ultimately is that they now live lives they love, following
their passions.

You see it is our PASSIONS in life that tell us precisely
what we are to do. When we follow our passions, our life
lights up. We give off incredibly powerful energy which
attracts our desires to us. That means people, money,
objects, careers...whatever we want that is in line with our
purpose. The Universe WANTS to provide those things we want
most. It is only our own limiting belief systems that stop
fulfillment from occurring.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Bob Doyle is the CEO and founder of Boundless Living and the
developer of the "Wealth Beyond Reason" program, which
provides a continuing education of the physics of wealth,
abundance, and joyous living through the Law of Attraction.
http://www.boundlessliving.com

-----------------------------------------------------------

Johnetta Matthews
Veterans In Motion

Technorati Tags: military transition military
military separation military retirement military transition
life veterans va homeless Iraq war Health PTSD
<!--

Types of Interview Questions

=======================

Thanks for signing up for our newsletter.

Feedback Request:

If there is a particular subject you’d like addressed
in our newsletter, feel free to drop us a line at:
writeto:vetsinmotion@aol.com. Let us know your thoughts.

Last week we discussed the entrepreneurial spirit some
of us may have developed while still in the military.

There may still be many of you who would like to have
the security of a job after the military. This may be beneficial
for you.

There’s one thing you must know:

- Jobs aren’t secure as you may think.
- There are lay-offs and companies fold.
- The benefits aren’t as great as the military’s.
- Most people find themselves in a higher tax
bracket now that there are no tax-free
entitlements.
- All income is now taxed and you may take home less.

Some of us find out the above once we are in the civilian sector.
It’s better to be fully prepared as possible. Many service men
and women prefer to start a business and look for a job at the
same time. Either way, if you should decide to look for
employment, there will be an interview.

When was the last time you interviewed for a job? Was it
4, 5, or over 10 years ago? What type of questions
an employer asks during an interview? Are there certain
types of questions that will leave you looking like a deer in
headlights? This issue we will reveal common questions
an interviewer may ask. Preparation is the key to success.

To get a feel on what type of questions they may ask, check the
download section of the below site:

Complete Interview Guide – Free Downloads

There are various categories an interviewer may address in your
interview. You may see an interviewer ask questions in the
following areas to see how you have performed in the past.

1. Adaptability
2. Analysis
3. Attention to detail
4. Career advancement
5. Communication
6. Planning and organizing
7. Work standards
8. Work experience
9. Professional and self-development
10. Innovativeness

There are over thirty possible categories an interviewer may
address. There’s no way we can address all categories in
this newsletter instead we’ll reflect on common questions
we may not consider someone will ask us. Here’s an insight
of the types of questions your interviewer may ask you:

1. What are some things your supervisors have complimented
you on? What have they criticized you on?

2. What skill and development courses have you taken recently?
Why did you decide to take them?

3. What are your career goals in the next five years?
What have you done to accomplish them? What are you doing
to prepare for advancing your career?

4. How can you contribute to our company?

5. Why should I hire you? (Ouch)

Now the last two questions are very significant. A person may
have answered all of the other questions powerfully and the
last two questions can have a significant impact on whether
they are hired. Normally, questions 4 and 5 are asked last.
Knowing more about the company’s structure and culture
may help you answer questions 4 and 5 more effectively.

Prior to going to an interview, do your homework. Research
about the company’s history, their standards, their motto,
and the direction the company is going. Find our about
their partnerships, where they are located, their mission,
and do a search on the internet about the company’s
latest news. Franchise Opportunities

=================================

Thanks for visiting our newsletter.

Do you consider yourself a diamond in the rough?
Are you possibly the type that wants to work for
themselves? Take a look at some hard to find
information below.

Did you know there are government guidelines in place
for veterans to have a franchise? Have you ever heard of
the International Franchise Association (IFA)? Did anyone
ever share with you that the U.S. Department of Veteran
Affairs (VA) and the IFA have a joint effort to assist
veterans with having a franchise as they transition
out of the military? It actually exist and this
newsletter will let you know where to research your
franchise opportunity. All franchise opportunities are
governed by law and all participants are required
to meet the guidelines and criteria to qualify.

Click on the url below to see the Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) between the International Franchise Association and the
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:

http://www.vetbiz.gov/library/ifanmou.pdf
(Give this time to load).

Let’ face it. We all know most military people can work with
systems and can follow guidelines Basically, a franchise is a
system. When you purchase a franchise, you’re purchasing
a system that has proven to be effective.

Just think back, in every McDonald’s, the fries are on the left and the
coffee is on the right. The McDonald’s system is duplicated
in every McDonalds you’ve ever visited. You may also decide that
this is an option for you as you leave the military.

Franchises aren’t for everyone. Some of you may want to
venture off and create your own business. Many of you will
prefer to have a job after the military. There will be a few of
you who will bite at the chance to have a system as your next
career move. Are franchise start-ups easy? I’m sure they
can be complicated and also rewarding if you make the
right choices. Keep in mind, I’ll provide the links and it will
be up to you to research and see if this is an option you
may want to launch in the near future.

To research franchising options, see the Veterans Transition
Franchise Initiative, better known as VetFran at:

http://www.vetbiz.gov/start/vetfran.htm

There are reduced down payments for the initial cost of the
franchise with this program. Transitioning Strategies – Broadening Options

2. Helpful Links for Military and Veteran Comrades.

=======================

1. Broadening Options

=======================

Thanks for signing up for our newsletter.
There are so many transitioning strategies
I’d like to share with you. Each of us experience
different adjustment periods when we leave the military.

A few of us know the right people to get hired when we
become a civilian. Some of us have an initial culture
shock and are able to adjust with little or no problems.
Many of us are totally blown away at the fact that we
no longer have the structured life we became accustomed
to living in the military. Either way, we all can use
different options to help guide us through our career
change.

How can we move on despite what we may have experienced
in the military? The answer is not always apparent yet it has
a resonance to it. “We have to make different choices with
different thinking”. Wow, you may ask, “How do we do that?”
Below are a few steps you may want to consider as you
embark on your voyage of becoming a civilian.

Start reading different material than what you are used
to reading.

- Go in Borders or Barnes and Noble and venture
off in into sections you would normally not visit.

- If you are overseas or in a desolate area and have
access to the internet, search on different topics
you wouldn’t normally search on. (Recommend going
through the book subjects online at Barnes and Noble
or Amazon.com).

- Order audio books (CD or cassette) where the speaker
discusses a different topic you may not normally
purchase. (Management is a good topic).
Recommended Author: John Maxwell
Investing: Robert Kiyosaki (check our web site resources)

Great Sources for Transitioning Tools and Job Guides:

http://www.veteransinmotion.com/recommendedresources.htm

- Write down your goals and dreams and don’t hold back.
Next write down what it will take to get there and take action.

- Write me for a no obligation, complimentary coaching
session. During this session, we both will take a look at
your goals and what you’d like to achieve.

- Join local civilian organizations or play sports on a
civilian team. (Bowling, softball, pool, basketball, etc.)

- Take a career assessment and find out where your
strengths are and capitalize on your strengths by setting course
on an occupation that possesses them. We offer career
assessment packages. See our website
at http://www.veteransinmotion.com/ .

**Treat yourself to a free seminar. The below link
is worth $1790 for two people to attend a seminar.
Check out the link and see if there is a seminar
near you. This would be a good tool to
help with your internal process with leaving
the military.

http://www.l1nk.com/w25/freescholarship.html

**You may need to consolidate your bills due to
unforeseen expenses. Helpful Links for Military and Veteran Comrades.

=======================

1. Useful Questioning Strategy for Achieving Goals

=======================

I’d like to thank you for allowing me
to assist you with your upcoming life change.
When I left the military, things were really
uncertain and often I felt all alone in my journey.
The options in the civilian sector appeared out of
reach and I had to develop different methods to
achieve my goals. There were no clear cut
methods to follow and I had to rely on my intuition.
One strategy I used was asking myself the right
questions to get the results I desired.

What do I mean by asking myself the right questions?
When embarking on something new, we have to have
the vision of achieving our goals. Second, we have to
visualize who we must be to achieve those goals.
Your Military Transition is an internal adjustment. Many
of your old thought patterns will be tested. In come cases,
you will develop new ways of thinking in order to be successful
in the civilian sector. Your results with your new life
will be based on your thoughts and how you perceive
others. Let’s find out ways to open up new methods of
thinking for you. Flexibility is the key for warfare and
even for personal success.

Asking ourselves proper questions forces
us to take action. Look at yourself as a computer
program. Each program can only work within the parameters
of it’s design. In order to have new operations, an upgrade is
required. The military is an operating system you’ve been
running for some time. Now that you are considering leaving
the military, you will require a new set of parameters and
an upgrade to your system. Here are a few questions
you may want to ask yourself as you face decisions or
obstacles prior to, during, and long after your military transition.
Consider the below questions as a way to upgrade your
personal operating system.

1. What is so great about this problem or decision?
2. What could I change about myself to overcome this
problem?
3. What am I willing to do to make things the way I want?
4. What am willing to no longer do in order to achieve my
goal?
5. How can I enjoy the process while I do what is necessary
to make things the way I want?
6. What would make me the most happiest and what do
I need to do to get there?
7. What image do I want to have and what is necessary to
be that image?

You may notice a pattern with all of the above questions.
All of the questions start with, “What” and “How”. When
we start a question with “Why” we are victimizing ourselves.
Another key type of question to ask yourself is a “Where” type
question. Example: “Where am I willing to live to get
a good job after the military?”

Stay tuned for more tips next week on transitioning out of the
military. Have a prosperous journey in the civilian sector.
You deserve it!

======================================
2. Primary Steps to Leaving The Military

2. Helpful Links for Military and Veteran Comrades.

=======================

1. Primary Steps To Leaving The Military

=======================

Hope all of you are having a safe week.
This issue will help you start sorting out
a few of the actions that are necessary
prior to leaving the military. Many of these
suggestions will be mentioned in your Transition
Assistance Program (TAP) briefings.

First things are first is my motto. There are key
documents you may want to make copies of prior
to leaving the military. These documents are
listed below:

1. Military Records
2. Medical and Dental Records (and dependent’s)
a. Have medical and dental records reviewed
for possible disabilities prior to leaving the military.
b. Have an up-to-date physical and dental exam
prior to separation and retirement.
3. Training Records
4. Education Records (and dependent’s)
5. Children’s school records

Items you will want to request prior to retiring
or separating:

1. Copy of the driver’s manual from the state you
will reside in.

a. Many of us have maintained a driver’s license
that didn’t require renewal. In most states you will have
30 days to obtain the appropriate driver’s license.

2. Obtain a copy of your social security card for
upcoming job interviews.

3. Obtain a copy of your birth certificate from the Office
of Vital Statistics. Conduct a search online for the Vital
Statistics Office near your place of birth.

a. Obtain a copy of your children’s birth certificates
and their social security cards if applicable. All family members
should have all up to date dependent ID cards if applicable.

4. Order all military transcripts through your Education
Office.

Links:

To compare military job to a civilian occupation:

http://www.militaryguides.acenet.edu/

Valuable Resources:

http://www.military-net.com/education/mpdaarts.html

http://www.back2college.com/accelerate2.htm

http://www.au.af.mil/au/ccaf/active_transc.htm

https://smart.cnet.navy.mil/

http://www.acenet.edu/clll/military/faq_transcript.cfm

Stay tuned for more tips next week on transitioning out of the military.

======================================

2.
